Kitty fisher’s a new restaurant at 10 shepherd market

We are pleased to announce we have our first restaurant project at No 10 Shepherd Market for Mrs Penelope and Mr Michael Milburn, which is located in the north eastern corner of the market square, tucked away between Piccadilly and Curzon Street in the borough of Mayfair.

The area was developed in 1735-46 by Edward Shepherd the designer, builder and entrepreneur, who was responsible for building on the Grosvenor and Cavendish estates.

Mayfair itself was named after the 15 day May Fair that took place on the site in the 17th and 18th centuries.

In the early part of the last century, Shepherd Market was a fashionable address for some of London’s most refined inhabitants.

The writer Michael Arlen rented rooms opposite The Grapes public house, possibly at no 10, and used Shepherd Market as the setting for his bestselling 1924 novel ‘The Green Hat’, later to be made into a film starring Greta Garbo.

No 10 is essentially 18th century, but with a rebuilt, mid-19th century brick façade. The fenestration dates from this partial rebuilding and is surrounded by alternating bands of yellow and red brick.

This forms a decorative element to the window heads and string courses. The ground floor shop front still retains the two carved stone corbels to either side of the frontage but with poor quality, modern replacement shop front between.

The building lies on a corner site and is spread over six floors including the basement. The basement itself extends out under the pavement with two sizeable brick vaults.
