CDA recreates the Truman Brewery for the Gingerbread City 2024

Victoria, Tara and Oliver have been busy in the studio in Spitalfields working on our submission for @thegingerbreadcity, which opened last weekend! Tickets available via thegingerbreadcity.com

The theme this year is ‘recycled city’ and, as we’re proud to be one of five studios working on the renewal of parts of the Truman Brewery, we took it as our starting point. Our plot, being baked here, is Block O: the boiler house and its chimney.

Our chimney is made from concentric layers of sweet biscuit at 1:50 scale. For the base, the elegant Georgian arch and proportions on Brick Lane are recreated in gingerbread, the founding matter of the Gingerbread City. Like the humble brick, it is an endlessly recyclable, adaptable baked unit that can be crushed like crumbs and reformed, or salvaged and repurposed. There may or may not be a secret ingredient. 🍺
